The Zine-Makers Community Hub
Coin-Operated Press has a venue! We have transformed an unused West Side Plaza unit into a safe and inspiring place for our local community of zine-makers and aspiring artists to come together and create wonderful things!
In The Zine-Makers Community Hub you will be able to pop in for our free drop-in zine-making sessions, regular zine-maker coffee mornings, pay-what-you-can tutored workshops to expand on your zine-making skills, chilled-out zine-reading sessions in our cosy area, exhibitions of local artists, zine-swap events, and much much more!!
Drop-In Zine-Making Sessions
The Zine-Makers Community Hub will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12:00 until 17:30 and you can drop in anytime to make zines in the Hub!
Drop-in sessions are unguided and completely free. You will be able to use our handy zine-making information guides that are dotted around the space to make your zines, and the Coin-Operated Staff will be on hand to answer any of your zine-making questions! We have provided all of the materials you could possibly need to make your zines, including lots of awesome collaging supplies for you to dive into and be inspired!
Weekly Tutored Workshops
We host tutored workshops in the Zine Hub every Saturday. Examples of workshops we have run in the past include: Zinearring-making, collage pin-badge making, a technical introduction to Waterfall Zines, spooky pumpkin-decorating for Halloween, and many more to come! These sessions are led by Chloe, Katie, or a guest artist and you can check out our Events Calendar to see the full line-up of artist-led workshops.
All of our Saturday workshops are bookable on a pay-what-you-can basis, as we are keen to encourage everyone to get creative with us. Tickets are available to book via our Eventbrite.
We Welcome Everyone!
The Zine-Makers Community Hub is open to all. We welcome all ages and all backgrounds. Whether you have never heard of a zine before or you make them all the time, you are welcome to come in and create them with us!
We aim to make this a safe space for all and will not tolerate homophobia, transphobia, gender discrimination, racism, sexism, ableism, or discrimination of any kind. We will not hesitate to remove anyone who breaks our safer spaces policy. The team of security within the centre are aware of this and are quick to respond if we need their assistance.
About Outer Spaces
Outer Spaces is a charity collaborating with artists, art collectives, organisations and commercial property owners to occupy and activate the nation’s empty commercial spaces. Outer Spaces offer access to empty shops, offices and industrial space for artists working across disciplines to research and make their work. The organisation programmes residencies and projects to help sustain and support artistic practice and they commission artists to engage audiences with art practice. Outer Spaces are committed to providing accessible, welcoming and inclusive spaces and are open to new ideas from artists and partners.
